Portal: Short Film Screening and Q&A

Join us for an intimate screening of Portal, a short film exploring identity and self acceptance written and directed by Downey-based, independent filmmaker blank space. The screening will be followed by a live Q&A session. Light snacks & refreshments will be available.

Doors @ 7:00pm | Screening @ 7:30pm

  • We will have seating available on a first-come-first-served basis, but feel free to bring any personal seating or items to make yourself comfortable (camp chairs, blankets, etc).

  • Capacity is limited. We recommend reserving your space ahead of time online.

  • Entry is donation-based, pay what you can!


ABOUT PORTAL

A closeted pastor encounters an alternate version of himself who is openly gay. When this alternate version wants to meet the pastor's biological daughter, conflict ensues. The pastor must prevent this meeting at all costs to avoid his perfectly constructed life from falling apart.

ABOUT BLANK SPACE

Portal is written and directed by blank space, an independent filmmaker born and raised in Downey. As a queer kid, film has always been a place of shelter for him. He hopes to help create stories that spark discussion and bridge people together.


EVENT INFORMATION

Food & Drinks

Complimentary light bites will be available. Drinks will also be available for purchase at our bar, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. We kindly ask that you do not bring your own drinks into the gallery. Water and small snacks are okay.

Parking

Free street parking can be found on Downey Avenue, in the public parking lot by Grocery Outlet, or in the parking structure on 2nd & New St. next to LOOK Cinema.

Accessibility

Stay Gallery is located on ground level and is accessible to wheelchair users from the main entrance on Downey Avenue. Trained service animals are welcome. If you have any questions or specific requests, please contact us for assistance before your visit.

COVID-19

An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. Please stay home if you are sick or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. Face masks are strongly encouraged inside the gallery.

Refunds & Cancellations

Full refunds will be given to cancellations that are initiated 24 hours before event start time. Refunds will not be issued to no shows. Stay Gallery reserves the right to cancel events with low sign ups or for unforeseen circumstances. Registrants will be notified 24 hours prior and full refunds will be processed.
