MEET YOUR ART INSTRUCTOR

Nia Simone Lane

Nia Simone Lane is a Long Beach based painter who explores the topics of beauty, love, depression, and the quality of life through her work. Nia spent her early childhood in Compton, CA and the rest of her adolescent and teenage years in Columbus, OH.

Since Nia could remember, she was always an artistic person and was often criticized for being “different.” Nia channeled her disdain for being set apart through her art, serving as a means for her to cope with depression. When people resonated with her work, Nia began to understand that her gift was a part of her purpose, and that there was purpose in her pain.

Nia’s creates portraits of herself and people of color in various settings to exemplify the complex Black experience. She expresses herself through the richness, texture, and depth of oil and acrylic paint. Nia has training through the Fine Arts Program at Fort Hayes High School in Columbus, OH and El Camino Community College in Torrance, CA.
